Laxá í Aðaldal - Jarlsstaðir og Tjörn

3 rod brown trout beat with a good chance for salmon

This beat in the Laxá in Aðaldal comprises fishing spots across the lands of Jarlsstaðir, Hjarðarhaga, and Tjörn. Historically known as a salmon fishing beat, the focus has shifted to trout fishing in recent years due to declining salmon stocks in Laxá. Each year, new trout spots are discovered, revealing that the area not only yields 100cm+ salmon but also sustains trout of 70cm and above in multiple locations.

Fishing occurs on the western bank, offering diverse fishing spots, from excellent streamside spots with pools (Upper Höskuldsvík) to large stretches with big trout (Jónsabreiða) in dry fly paradises (Lower area). Similarly, salmon fishing offers varied experiences, from accessible pathways worth exploring (Spónhylur, Höskuldsvíkurbrot, Tvíhólmi) to productive spots (Dýjaveitur, Breiðeyrarbrot) and swift currents ideal for fly fishing (Hrúteyjarkvísl, Símastrengur). Breiðeyri, Syðsteyjarkvísl, Rauðhólsvík, and other sites offer remarkable experiences blending various fishing styles.

The river is broad in this section, necessitating large single-handed and double-handed rods to cover all spots effectively. However, common mistakes among anglers include reckless wading when fish may be close to the banks, notably in Dýjaveitur, Hrúteyjarkvísl, and Símastrengur.

Finding places with more stunning scenery than the Laxá in Aðaldal is unheard of.
