Mýrarkvísl í Reykjahverfi

A remarkably diverse small river – brown trout and salmon

Mýrarkvísl is one of the most beautiful tributaries of the Laxá in Aðaldalur, known for its variety of pools and runs, clear water and strong stocks of both brown trout and arctic char. The river flows into the Laxá after a four-kilometre run from the estuary and has produced excellent average catches in recent years. Although small in size, Mýrarkvísl offers an impressive number of pools, riffles and small cascades, providing exciting technical fly fishing under the right conditions. Salmon enter the river from mid-summer onwards, offering additional opportunities later in the season. This is a small but characterful river — a perfect destination for anglers who enjoy clear, intimate and technical trout and char fishing.

Other

Single rods are sold one day at a time from noon to noon, or as part of larger groups where multiple rods are sold together. In recent years, the annual catch has been approximately 200–400 salmon and around 1,250 brown trout. Catch registration is done through the AnglingIQ app. Improved Access and Habitat Restoration Since 2014 we have carried out extensive restoration on fishing spots that had filled with gravel and stones, resulting in excellent improvements.

Terms

Conduct and Driving

Anglers must always close all gates after passing. Driving off marked roads, into fields, meadows or sensitive areas is strictly prohibited unless written permission has been obtained from the landowner. All driving must be done carefully, with respect for signs, footpaths and livestock.

Fishing Rules and Angler Responsibility

Fly fishing only. All fish must be released carefully back into the river (100% catch and release). Anglers are responsible for familiarizing themselves with the river, the rules and the permitted fishing boundaries before fishing begins. The use of bait, worms, nets or any illegal fishing equipment is strictly forbidden.

Lodge and Facility Use

The fishing lodge and facilities must be left clean and in the same condition as when received. All rubbish must be taken away or placed in designated containers. Anglers are responsible for any damage caused to the lodge, equipment or property.

Safety

Anglers must exercise caution at all times and are responsible for their own conduct on the river and surrounding area. Children and minors may only fish under the supervision of an adult. The use of waders, wading boots and other equipment is at the angler’s own responsibility.

Bookings, Payments and Refunds

Fishing permits are not refundable unless fishing is cancelled by the seller (e.g. due to closure of the area). Permits are tied to the specified date and cannot be transferred or changed without the seller’s approval. Anglers are responsible for arriving on time and at the correct location.

Catch Log and Reporting

All catch and release must be recorded in the electronic logbook system before the end of the fishing day. The seller reserves the right to deny access to anglers who repeatedly neglect proper reporting.

Liability and Damage

The seller assumes no responsibility for accidents that may occur on the fishing grounds. Anglers fish entirely at their own risk and must ensure they have suitable equipment for the conditions. Responsibility for damage to vehicles, gear or personal belongings lies solely with the angler.

Weather, Water Levels and Natural Conditions

Fishing conditions are entirely dependent on weather, water levels, temperature, flow and other natural factors beyond the seller’s control. The seller therefore accepts no responsibility for weather or natural conditions, including situations where the river becomes inaccessible, too high, too low, or when fishing becomes difficult or impossible. Buyers acknowledge that purchasing a fishing permit grants access to the fishing area, not a guarantee of fish, conditions or fishing success.

Refunds and Changes

Fishing permits are not refundable due to unfavorable conditions, weather, water levels, temperature, rain, drought, cold or any other natural circumstances. The seller will always do their best to work with anglers when exceptional circumstances arise, but such assistance does not imply any obligation to refund, extend or reschedule fishing days, or provide alternative solutions.

Acceptance of Terms

By purchasing a fishing permit, the buyer confirms that they have read and accepted all terms and conditions applying to the designated fishing area. These terms are binding for the buyer from the moment payment is completed.
